Mobile phone becomes scanning / payment device

Ron Onrust pointed me to this article about an invention by Japanese firm Mediastick. The idea is that one uses the camera of the mobile phone to scan/photograph the barcode of a product of service that the consumer desires. By sending the photo of the barcode to the designated phone-number of Mediastick, the order is placed and payment will be effected by means of an agreed payment mechanism (credit card for example).

The system will be tested as of September this year with a selected group of NTT Docomo customers.
